Day 86, Wednesday, November 2, Kennicott

10 am

I just learned that starting tonight at about 11:00 as we get into open waters that gale-force winds are expected for three hours, up to 75 miles an hour.  Waves are expected to hit 24 feet high. This will be repeated twice timorrow as we head into unprotected waters again for about just as long.

This is going to freak Donner out. If i leave him leashed down in the Defender, he will surely get hurt.  If i unleash him, he will break out again as there is nothing more that i can do to secure him in there and he will get hurt roaming around the deck in the storm.

I discussed this with the purser and she offered zero solutions.  Totally useless.  Another reason to avoid thus Alaska ferry. It Is the least customer service operation i have seen.   We have a stop in Ketchikan at 3-5 this afternoon, and i might seriously consider getting off the ferry and staying there for a week until the next ferry.  I am concerned that Donner will get injured. Of course, there is always a risk to everyone on this ferry of going through such rough waters.

Would someone kindly tell me when all the stuff that is being thrown at me on this trip will end? Thank you.

Ed and Donner, from on the road
